Rain, Rules, and One Blue Bone

It rained today—how rude, how mean,
No doggy friends for Neil, Oh boy!
No zoomies, no walk, no muddy delight,
Just me and my boy for the whole long evening.

He sat there quietly… but not for long,
I could tell something was very wrong,
Those eyes said clearly, loud and bold—
“Where is my bone… the one that’s blue I hold?!”

He knows its name, he knows the tone,
“Bone!” I say—and up he’s thrown,
Tug of war is his favorite game,
Winning, of course, is his only aim.

Rules are rules (I say with pride),
He pulls one end, I hold the side.
If I win, he waits. No cheat.
(He thinks that rule is a total cheat.)

“3… 2… 1… GO!” I shout,
And off he lunges, no single doubt.

But wait—plot twist. Bone? Not there.
Missing. Gone. Nowhere. Nowhere.
He looked at me like, “Fix this now,”
I said nothing. Just raised a brow. 😏

Off he went, detective mode,
Sniffing carpets, cracking the code,
Room to room with focus so tight,
Like Sherlock Holmes on a mission tonight.

I knew the spot. I said no word.
Yes, I’m that human. Slightly absurd.

And then—EUREKA! Victory found!
That blue bone treasure on the ground!
He grabbed it quick, no time to waste,
And zoomed in on me at lightning pace.

Straight to my hand—like, “Game ON, please!”
No pause, no breath, just pure expertise.

And in that moment, silly yet true,
I saw something deeper shining through—
Not just a pup who loves to play,
But learning, bonding—two as one.

Still just a baby, eighteen months old,
Yet sharp, and smart, and giving his all.

Rain may fall, plans may be gone,
But Neil made sure—the day lives on. 🌧️🐾💙
