An afternoon with Michael Schur.
After a nice meal, instead of letting my eyes doze off, I quickly turned my attention towards my window, wait, wait, not a typical 8x8 FT, but almost the size of an entire wall :) Jeez. I hyped it way much :D but yeah, the view from my window is awesome! I can see the sky stretching out everywhere, the white clouds rolling by on clear days, and the eagles that are flying by. I can see the houses lining the road throughout and a blending palette of greens and browns, plus whatever colors that Halloween left behind.
In a blink of an eye, maybe it’s my fantasy or pareidolia, it's the ability to look at random objects and see familiar faces/things. To me, one of the clouds resembled this man, with a lovely gesture, bright eyes that are spaced correctly and are racing for another victory, along with an equal proportion of charm and elegance. Well, the cloud is kinda 45 degrees angle from my site. Oh boy! Yeah, it’s him, Michael Herbert Schur. Yes, yes, an American television director, writer, producer, actor, what not! a creator ;) what wondrous humor and smile he’s got! Hold on, I wonder if he’s a millennial?
Me: Hey Janet
Janet: Hi there!
Me: Is Michael a millennial?
Janet: Nope, he’s 45
Me: Oh, no. That could not happen.
Along with a low Chidi voice speaking of ethics about liking a married man! 😉
Well, you guessed it correctly, I was referring to the characters in The Good Place, created by Michael Schur. For those of you who already watched the series, cheers 🍻 Yass, got connected right? And for those who haven’t watched it yet, cheers 🍻 I just introduced you to a beautiful series of recent times, that I enjoyed watching. My favorite character in that is…… um.. Jason? No Eleanor&Chidi? No no Tahani’s self-obsession? Crap! It’s the cute Michael, mannnn, how did I forget Janet, aargh!
Oh boy! I loved watching literally EVERYONE and EVERY episode.
The story wonderfully revolved around snappy, snappy memory fixxy!
So the search began.
Curious about Michael's very start, I learned that his interest in comedy started when he was 11 years old, it’s the book (Without Feathers, a 1975 collection of humorous essays by Woody Allen) that he found on this dad’s bookshelf compelled him to stay until 4 a.m. that day [well, not so unusual, but yeah, exciting!] and eventually paved way to become an official writer by 22.
Got it, got it, I understand that even you have access to his Wikipedia 😬
But wait, did you come across this story about him humiliating himself way much to raise charity? I was amazed too when I first saw his post on Twitter.
His post - “We’ve raised $9000 in 42 minutes. If we get to $50,000 by midnight I’ll shave my head and take a video and post it. I swear to god.”
Oh god, and the irony is the funds rose to $50,000 within the following hour, ha ha.. and the humiliation coupled with funds continued ever after….
So as his series 😨😊
Well, next stop - Um, any suggestions?
Oops, I almost forgot mentioning this. Well, I could somehow (maybe ~15-20%) relate The Good Place story to my 1st story that I've written a year ago, if you do too, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for reading :)
